Half these ideas don't make any sense. Why has Manchuria been split between China and the Soviet Union? Why is Albania part of Greece? Why is Afghanistan part of India? Why are Hainan and Formosa part of the United States? Seriously, this guy must've been on crack when he was making this.
The map had a year stamp of 1942 on it. I think it was someone's very ideal version of what the world would be like after Axis butt got kicked and colonialism was ended following WW II. The amount of geographical & cultural naiveite on display in the original is amazing.
Apparently whoever drew up the map had no idea that the Allies would fall out so soon after the end of the war. It seems it was intended that the main Allies would apportion and direct the world in a somewhat-harmonious balance of their interests. (Other peoples' interests seem not to have been consulted in the making of this map. )
During the war people were more optimistic about the future, and there was a lot of propaganda that made the USSR seem better than it was. Se Frank Capra's "Why We Fight" series on Youtube. The KOrean War and the Red Scare ruined a lot of positive thinking for many people in the USA.
