When Finland gets independence, we used so-called Lion-flag wheres was Lion of Finland in red background. But then come commies and take lead in Russia and they start use red flag as flag of Russia. So we need to chance our flag. So there are some propositions for flag of Finland from 1863-1918.
Have it be the Icelandic flag. or take the imperial colors or Russia and have part of the Romanovs take refuge there. Unless the Germans put in their own Grand Duke.
Interesting, lots of cool designs. The one in the bottom right seems distinctly republican as well. Its design reminds me of a number of African and American flags. I also guess that the ones in the upper right included a yellow cross as a nod to the countries historical ties to Sweden, or am I wrong?
Yeah that star flag is made by himself Zachris Topelius.
That 3rd one is proposition to our merchant flag made by senate of Vasa in civil war. I think that colours symbolize Finland as red, white and yellow from our CoA and Sweden as Blue and Yellows from your flag.
Ah, I remember seeing some of these designs when searching around for the Norwegian flag proposals over on flagspot. The third and the eight flags are my favourites. The first and seventh ones are also pretty nice.
By the way, many of the flag proposals for Norway in the early 19th century were basically just variations of a blue nordic cross on a white background, like the modern flag of Finland. Makes one wonder how Finland's flag would have been if one of those flags won the contest, huh?
In any case, NICE!

And thanks
